4.0 Magnitude Earth Tremor Hits Parts Of Ghana’s Capital Accra


Residents of the Greater Accra and Central Region of Ghana have been left bewildered after these environs experienced moderate earthquakes yesterday.

The phenomenon which took place in the West African country at about 10:40 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, occurred three times in the space of 10 minutes.

Many residents reported on social media that they felt their houses shaking on Wednesday night, June 24, 2020Some residents of Osu, Ablekuma Manhean, Kaneshie, Achimota, Adenta, Circle, Kokomlemle, Accra New Town, Legon, Dansoman, Kasoa, Haatso, Kwashiman, Teshie, Nungua, McCarthy Hill among others also said they felt the movement.

In Adabraka and Nima, there were reports of people running out of their homes to seek refuge in open spaces.


The Ghana Seismic Center, under the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) is yet to confirm the reason for the tremor.

Ghana experienced two earth tremors in 2019 and one in 2018. These tremors were recorded mostly in Accra, the capital.
