Exclusive Photos: Christopher Young & DJ Fame Self Titled Album ‘AEROPLAY’Launch

A landmark feat was recorded on 20th December 2011, at the glamorous Grand Ball Hall of the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lekki, lagos, when the newest singing sensations, Christopher Young and DJ Fame, members of the AEROPLAY group, successfully launched their self-titled debut album ‘AEROPLAY’. Their successful launch and emergence could actually been seen as the next best thing to hit Nigerian music scene especially at this time when there is a felt need for the development of raw and undiluted talents among the young entertainers.

The Guests, Dressed To Kill
Organised and sponsored by SIFAX GROUP, a giant international shipping company, the event was heavily attended by the crème of the society. The magnificence of the hall gave a glimpse of what to come from the event as the massive and heavily decorated hall, laid with shiny gold-coloured fabrics decorating the seats, tables etc, was set alive with guests who exuded sublime affluence and elegance. They all looked every inch respectable and lovers of entertainment going by their modest but swish outfits, immaculate gaits and composed carriage. As expected, there were several young damsels who looked quite explosive in their sexy short gowns, high-heel footwears, colourful and sensual pants, etc. Likewise, there were so many young fashion craze dudes who showed off in eye-catching trendy wears. They all thronged in after spicing up the Red Carpet posing for hot shots and granting short interviews to the ever bustling paparazzi.

A Drunk Host
KlintDa Drunk, the host, staggered to the stage and got the show on pronto. He started off with his characteristic hard chest-poking jokes. He said for instance, “If you do not (hic!) stand up to give God a resounding clap offering, you will not (hic!) see the Xmas!” Guess what happened after he uttered the statement: everybody stood up and clapped endlessly until he begged them to stop. “In fact, if you don’t stop now, you may not enter the new year!” The clap offering stopped abruptly! Following the introduction and acknowledgement of the guests and some high-profiled personalities in the hall, the celebrant were invited to the stage and the cool dudes were so full of appreciation.

Introducing The Young Sensations
As the duo mounted the stage to open the show with one of their singles, there were loud cheers and endless hooting. As expected, they thrilled with loud and high powered sounds blasting from the speakers. Christopher Young (real name BabatundeAfolabi, founder of the group) and DJ Fame (real name Henry TonweAdebola, producer) looked quite composed and professional even though they are young and upcoming. Dressed in a plain white jacket over a pair of black pant trousers, Chris, who is mainly a rapper, did justice to rap while his partner, cool looking DJ Fame, enchanted the guests with his serene voice. The duo complements each other and their delivery was really impressive.

Likened to the Mo’ Hits giants (Don Jazzy and D’Banj) in their earlier days, AEROPLAY has what it takes to make their predecessors green with envy. They sing, they rap, they dance and they produce their own songs. More importantly, they are backed by some of the most influential personalities and companies in the country and abroad. AEROPLAY was formed in 2010 by prolific rapper and young scholar Christopher Young, who is currently studying Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa, Canada. Having tried his rap skills and potentials on demos and mixtapes, which he released digitally online, he stepped up his exploits teaming up with a rising singer and music producer, DJ Fame, who is also presently studying Mass Communication at the Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou. Both worked tirelessly together and the awesome album is the result of their effort.

Launching The Debut Album
KlintDa Drunk called on some selected personalities to help launch the career of the budding duo who have showed just how serious and talented they were following their vibrant and entertaining performances on the stage. Mr. Taiwoafolabi, Chris’ father and the AEROPLAY’s mentor, in a statement, revealed just how impressed and glad he was with the duo’s music escapade. “Seeing this day come to life is enough glory achieved by my toddlers as we can see they are really a blessing to the family and charismatically, to the nation. I can proudly present to you the future of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry, an epitome of greatness and a force to be reckoned with as they take the centre stage in furtherance of their dreams, ambition, aims, goals and believes. I gladly announce to you that my commitment goes from “A MILLION DOLLARS ($1, 000,000 USD) financial commitment to their ongoing project…” he submitted.
Other launchers include: Chief launcher Barr. KayodeFilani, who launched with N2m (N2, 000,000); Mr and Mrs. Mohammed Mubarak dropped £10,000 (about N2.7m); several others launched the project with 7 and 6 digit figures. They include Rtd. Major Henry Ajetumobi, Dr. Phil, Mr. Isaac Oralugbagbe, Barr. Tunji of Sifax Group, Mr. John Jekins, Mr. Mike, Dr. Wale Afolabi, and Chris’ mother who added prayers to her own financial commitment. Some others secretly made their commitment and at the end of it all, it was massive!

Music Acts on the Night
AEROPLAY did some of their new songs ‘Down Below’, ‘Fine Gyal’ and ‘Layemi’. There is no doubt that the dudes know their onions. There were hot performances by some new music acts rocking the air waves now. Harry Song had a good night thrilling the guests while one of the raves of the moment, W4, in his characteristic Fela-like attire (orange body fitted long sleeve shirt over a pair of very tight pink pants, which KlintDa Drunk found so amusing), did what he does best. As others like Vector, Waje, Davido, Mona and DammyKrane, were billed to perform, several other young heavily talented greenhorns, bustling with life, were given the platform to show off. Baby Boy, Da Jacobs, Orezi, Element X, Emmanuel, Deep Frezzle, TY, etc had their way on the stage. Osagie the comedian did his time too.

A Success Story…
As the event came to an end on a happy and accomplished note, it therefore remains to be seen how far the AEROPLAY duo are willing to go. Evidently, there is no stopping them because they have been overwhelmingly supported by both families, friends and fans. The group is here to stay as signalled by the album content which has several hot joints on it. Both young, vibrant and definitely talented, AEROPLAY has been ratified by top music and entertainment personalities (Olu Maintain and DJ Jimmy Jatt were on board on the night alongside some other music acts) and going by their delivery, and given the right incentive and platform, they just might be the next biggest duo to storm the music scene edging out some other long standing music giants especially on the home front.
