In addition to having two new cities joined to the audition train for the Nigerian Idols Season 3, the organizers are determined to keep the show interesting and keep their audience guessing as they have announced Nigeria’s own living legend, three-time Grammy nominee and Afro beat king; Femi Kuti as one of the judges.
The Project Manager, Tiwa Medubi has described the upcoming third season as a whole new package and cycle with new twists that are sure to make the show more exciting.
Femi Kuti who is known to be very conservative, TV shy and rarely out of the African Shrine except for few select performances in Nigeria and world tours, so it’s a remarkable testament to the power of the Nigerian Idol brand for him to join the panel of judges.
As one of Africa’s biggest recording artistes, Femi Kuti is sure to bring to the show wealth of experience that spans well over three decades of performing across the world, playing 6 musical instruments, and having received several international awards. He has collaborated with musicians, including Common, Mos Def, Jaguar Wright, D'Angelo, Macy Gray, The Soultronics, Nile Rodgers, amongst others. Femi Kuti's voice is featured in the videogame Grand Theft Auto IV, where he is the host of radio station IF 99.
Speaking on the show and him being a judge, Femi Kuti stated that it was an honour to be a part of Nigerian Idols as the aims at discovering talents across the country in music. Femi Kuti had been a guest judge on season two of the Nigerian Idols and had been impressed when he watched Mercy Chinwo the last winner give a remarkable performance of Fela Kuti’s Zombie.
Auditions for Nigerian Idol have started, and continue from the 20th of October. This season’s prize is valued at $100,000 and the elements are thus; N7.5 million cash, a recording contract worth N7.5million and an SUV.
