Over 50 residential buildings, school, churches were destroyed by an explosion caused by a vehicle moving improvised explosive devices from Akure, the Ondo State capital to a nearby state, on Saturday morning, Nigerian Tribune reports.
The blast which occurred in the early hours of Saturday cut off the ever-busy Akure-Owo road while many people were said to be injured.
The explosion which reportedly happened less than a kilometre to Akure Airport, affected many residents of Eleyowo community, destroying completely a church and a school in the area.
According to The Punch, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who inspected the scene of the explosion on Saturday, explained that the vehicle was in a convoy heading to a storage facility in a neighbouring state when it broke down along theroad.
Many people who lived within the church premises were said to be injured while some were rescued by the people of the community.
