The Senate yesterday confirmed former Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and other ministerial nominees forwarded to it for approval as ministers of the federal republic of Nigeria.
PDP senators, except Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is the Deputy President of the Senate, staged a walkout to protest Amaechi’s confirmation. Their anger stems from the fact that corruption allegations had been leveled against the former governor in a petition tendered to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges by a group in Rivers State.
Senate President Bukola Saraki however went on to confirm Amaechi as minister after the walkout.
The other 17 nominees confirmed yesterday are Adebayo Shittu, Khadija Ibrahim, Heineken Lokpobiri, Cladius Daramola, Baba Mustapha, Ocholi James, Adewole Folorunso, Bawa Bwari, Geoffrey Onyeama, Zainab Ahmed, Mohammed Dan Ali, Usani Uguru, Okechukwu Enelamah, Anwuka Gozie, Mohammed Bello, Adamu Adamu and Aisha Abubakar.
The senate has completed the screening and confirmation of all 36 ministerial nominees sent to it for confirmation.
