The ARISE Magazine Fashion Week (AMFW) schedule has been released on the THISDAY live website. It is now confirmed that the shows will be holding from 10 to 13 March 2011 at two designated venues, the THISDAY Style and The ARISE Magazine Tents both at the prestigious Federal Place Hotel on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island Lagos. The AMFW Awards will be held on the 13 of March and will end the Fashion Week.
Though the initial press release stated that Africa’s 50 top designers would be selected by invitation only to showcase in the shows, the schedule however confirms that 53 designers have been selected and not all of them are in the top category. The designers selected fall into the categories of top, upcoming and new entrants in the African fashion industry. This however confirms the magazine’s commitment to the Fashion industry, “our mission is to continue to promote young and established African and African diaspora designers”.
The best collections from designers taking part in the shows will be invited to the inaugural and annual ARISE Magazine Fashion Gala in New York on the 14th of September 2011 at the Spring/Summer New York Fashion Week.
According to reports from Lagos, Lagosians are excited that the shows are taking place in the city this time around as THISDAY, the publishers of ARISE Magazine is based in Nigeria. The Fashion industry in Nigeria have long waited for a world class Fashion Week and we are all excited that we will beseeing the same magnitude of shows ARISE has previously organised in New York and South Africa.
