BBC has released its list of Africa’s best quotes of the year and Nigeria’s President Buhari’s came first.
The winning quote was his statement at his historic inauguration ceremony in May where he said, “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody”.
His statement during Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration where he said: “We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust. We must change our unruly behavior in schools, hospitals, market places, motor parks, on the roads, in homes and offices.”
“To bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens”, came in as second best quote.
Pope Francis, South Africa’s Zulu King – Goodwill Zweilithini, South Sudanese model, Nykhor Paul, US President – Barrack Obama, Zimabwe’s Robert Mugabe and more also made the list for their statements at various times within the year.
