Socio-cultural groups in Benue State appealed to other socio-cultural organisations in the country to prevail on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other security agencies to stop the sustained persecution of Governor Samuel Ortom on the 18th of August.
The group which consists of ‘Mdzough U Tiv, Idoma National Forum and Omi’Ngede on the 18th of August, specifically urged Afenifere, Ohanaeze, Arewa Consultative Forum, to speak against the actions of the anti-graft agency.
Leaders of the three socio-cultural organisations, Chief Edward Ujege, Amali Amali and Benjamin Okpa, released a statement that the recent attacks by the anti-graft agency is economic strangulation of citizens of the state.
They said, “The EFCC has demanded the minutes of the state’s security council meetings after its unsuccessful attempts to freeze the state accounts.”
“The Benue State House of Assembly was also blocked by operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services. Only eight out of 30 members were allowed into the Assembly chambers in an attempt to impeach the governor of the state.”
