Brazil Clinch First Copa America Title In 12 Years, Jesus Sent Off

Host, Brazil has clinched the 2019 Copa America trophy after defeating Peru 3-1 in a thrilling final match in Maracana on Sunday, ending a 12-year trophy drought for the samba boys.

Goals from Everton, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison, was enough to declare the host as champions of the continental tournament.

Brazil took the lead in the first half  via Gremio star Everton, scoring a fine opener in the 15th minute. Paolo Guerrero equalized from a penalty kick in the 44th minute before the break for Peru. But just moments later Gabriel Jesus scored the winner before halftime converting an assist from Barcelona midfielder Arthur.

VAR confirmed a penalty for Brazil and  Richarlison stepped up to convert the penalty, declaring the match over.

Despite Gabriel Jesus receiving his second yellow card in the second half and seeing red, Brazil managed to hold on and even add to its lead.
