“If Buhari Was Killed, There Would Have Been Major Crisis” – President Goodluck Jonathan

Buhari’s aides were reported to have sustained injuries during the bomb blast…

According to African Spotlight, President Goodluck Jonathan, on Sunday, said if those who planned to kill General Muhammadu Buhari and the frontline Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, had succeeded, there would have been no Sallah celebration.

The president also described those who planned the Kaduna bomb attacks as sons of the devil, saying that they would have put the country into a turmoil.

He made the declaration when he received the Muslim community in Abuja, led by Vice President Namadi Sambo, on Eid-el-Fitri homage to him at the Presidential Villa. The president observed that while Sheikh Bauchi is top Islamic preacher with millions of followers, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader has massive supporters.

“Not too long ago, we had these dastardly attacks in Kano and Kaduna. We stand to condemn these acts of terror on our people and we extend our condolence and sympathy to the bereaved and those who might have been injured.

“The recent attacks in Kaduna, especially where Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi and General Muhammadu Buhari were targets, you can imagine if these two people had died in those attacks. On the same day, people wanted to kill them. Those who planned the attacks are clearly sons of the devil, because if they had killed these two people, we wouldn’t have been here today. This country would have been in turmoil,” he said.

He thanked God for saving the lives of Buhari and Bauchi, while stressing the commitment of his administration to the successful prosecution of the war on terror.

The president reiterated his call for the cooperation of Nigerians with the security forces towards ending the Boko Haram menace. Jonathan said he was honoured to receive the Muslim community after the Ramadan fast and prayed to God to listen to and answer their prayers.
