Buhari Redeploys 184 Top Officials Over Budget Padding



No fewer than 184 top budget officials have been redeployed from the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as punishment for the padding of the 2016 proposed budget.

A total of Twenty two senior staff of the Budget Office in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning were redeployed to other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in a renewed effort to reposition the federal civil service in Nigeria for effective service delivery.

184 senior staff service-wide, four Directors, six Deputy Directors and twelve Assistant Directors have been posted out of the Budget Office, while 14 senior staff have been redeployed from other MDAs to inject new life into the Budget Office.

A circular from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation directs the affected officers to report at their new duty posts on March 11.

When contacted, Mr. Akpandem James, the Media Adviser to the Budget and National Planning Minister, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, confirmed the redeployment of the Directors of the Budget Office, but refused to give further details.

Last month, while in Saudi Arabia, President Muhammadu Buhari had blamed the controversy surrounding the 2016 budget estimates to padding by unscrupulous officials and vowed to punish all those responsible.
