After an early morning attack by thugs, #EndSARS demonstrators reconvened at the House of Assembly drive in Alausa area of Lagos state later on Thursday to continue their calls for an end to police brutality.
Thursday’s protest comes on the heels of a raucous Wednesday protest, during which armed thugs attacked protesters in Ikeja, injuring some of them and disrupting their peaceful demonstrations.
According to Punch, the thugs, who stormed the venue around 2pm, reportedly attacked the protesters with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
The protesters who resumed the ongoing cause today have since declared that they are not backing down despite the attack. They sang solidarity songs louder with high spirits as they have also increased in number.
A volunteer medical team was also on ground to attend to the injured protesters, while private security have also been hired following the disruption.
Thousands of protesters across the country have been protesting in the last one week against the harassment, extortion, and extrajudicial killings perpetrated by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police authorities in response to the demands disbanded the SARS unit and announced the setting up of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit as its replacement. The protests however continue with the protesters complaining that SWAT is a replica of SARS.

The protesters are converging again in Alausa. The earlier invasion by thugs seems to be an invitation to protesters. I've been here for just 10 minutes and at least 50 people have gathered again. #EndSWAT #AlausaProtest pic.twitter.com/FolIbWTBJa
