#EndSARS: Mass Protests Continue To Erupt Across Lagos, Enugu, Benue & More
Following yesterday’s candlelight procession held in honour of police violence victims, Nigerians continued their outcry on Saturday demanding that the entire police force be reformed.
The #EndSARS protests are fasting spreading across the country as more states have also joined in the movement. On Friday, major districts in Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, Ibadan and more were blocked and almost brought close to a standstill.
Today, demonstrators resumed in Lagos, quickly gaining crowd in Alausa and Lekki. They were spotted holding placard while chanting and singing. Protests are also being held in Enugu, Benue, Abuja and other states.
Solidarity protests have also happened in London, Washington, Toronto and other countries around the world.
The government has responded and said it has disbanded the SARS and replaced with a new tactical team known as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), however, it has not ended the heavy-handed policing as at least 10 people have been killed by the country’s police during protests.
Some are calling for the Inspector General of Police to resign and those protesting say their demands have not been met.
The organization that is going into the Lekki protests is amazing though. E.g. Security volunteers were mobilised as early as 7AM. pic.twitter.com/mvwCKhoWDS
