The Nigerian Army on Wednesday denied reports of its involvement opening fire and killing peaceful #ENDSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

This is coming after we reported how security agents in military camouflage stormed the area and started shooting sporadically, sparking widespread condemnation. Multiple videos captured by eye-witnesses how the moment soldiers violently attacked the protesters, as terrified citizens crouched and screamed.

We also gathered that the streetlights were put off and the CCTV cameras removed before the military personnel stormed the venue. The army has, however, labelled the reports false on all its verified social media accounts.

The incident comes hours after the Lagos State Government declared a 24-hour curfew as part of efforts to stop the violence which had broken out in some parts of the state by criminal elements who have been hijacking the protests.

Although the curfew was to commence at 4:00 pm, many were still seen protesting across the state. At the Lekki Toll Gate which has been one of the major converging points, many protesters were still seen gathered in large numbers, hours after the curfew was to have commenced.

Amid the confusion, there have been several reports of people being rushed in their hundreds to the hospital. The governor who visited some of the victims, confirmed that at least 28 were injured and are receiving treatment, while he was yet to confirm the casualty figure.

Several Nigerians at home and abroad have condemned the killings of Tuesday night, describing it as an act of wickedness against the unarmed protesters.
