The violent attack carried out by unidentified thugs on #ENDSARS protesters in Benin on Friday has been condemned by state governor Godwin Obaseki.
A statement by Crusoe Osagie, media aide to the governor and made available to newsmen said the Obaseki ordered for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
“I have just learnt that hoodlums have attacked #ENDSARS protesters, who have conducted themselves peacefully in Benin City,” he said on Twitter. I extend condolences to the victims of the attacks, including those who lost their lives and others who were injured by the thugs.”
The governor also charged the Edo State Police Command to come out in full force to provide adequate security to the protesters, as they were exercising their rights as concerned citizens of Nigeria.
He added, “It is disheartening that anyone would attack a peaceful assembly of young people who are expressing genuine concerns over police brutality and intimidation in their own country.
“I hereby call on the Edo State Police Command to get out on the streets and provide adequate security for the protesters and ensure that no one is harassed in the course of exercising their rights.”

Edo deputy governor, Philip Shaibu also addressed the protesters at the Kings square axis after the incident sayings the government will not fold its arms and watch harm come the way of young people exercising their rights as citizens of the country.
He also charged all security agencies to fish out those involved in the alleged killing of an #EndSARS protester in the state within 24 hours and ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to justice.
