Nigerian musicians Phyno and Flavour have both condemned the police in Anambra state for shooting peaceful protesters who were demanding for an end to police brutality and abolishment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Recall that on Friday, thousands joined the two mega stars including Kcee and Zoro, in marching to Awkuzu town, which hosts the notorious state head office of the defunct SARS.
The protesters gathered in Awka, the state capital, from where they took off to the nearby town of Awkuzu, some 21 kilometers from the capital. Flavour, while addressing the crowd, was heard saying they must get to Awkuzu and shut down the office completely.
However, the protesters were met with heavy resistance from SARS officials who refused them from gaining entry into the premises after the celebrities left. Videos shared all over social media also showed them shooting at the young Nigerians.
Taking to social media after the incident, Phyno who was evidently displeased wrote, “We had a peaceful protest in Awka and awkuzu but as soon as we left, we heard that the police teargassed the crowd and shot multiple times .. why will riot police have lethal weapon instead of Barton’s and riot gears ? #endsars #endpolicebrutality“
Flavour also reacted moments after the shooting on Twitter, expressing his disappointment in the now-defunct officials.
