Fashion’s biggest night, 2020 Met Gala will be marking its 150th anniversary with a theme tagged ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’. This was announced on Wednesday by Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
According to a press release, “the exhibition will explore how clothes generate temporal associations that conflate the past, present, and future.” The exhibition will run from May 7 to September 7 and feature 160 pieces of women’s clothing from the past 150 years., while the gala will be held the evening of May 4, 2020.
The theme is inspired by Virginia Woolf‘s novel, Sally Potter‘s 1992 cinematic interpretation Orlando and theories of the early-20th-century French philosopher Henri Bergson.
The theme for the 2020 Met Gala is “About Time: Fashion and Duration”. The inspiration comes from the 1992 Sally Potter film Orlando.
