The factional secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, located along number 11 B Sambo in the state capital, has been demolished on Tuesday morning.
According to THEWILL the secretariat belongs to the faction loyal to the Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, representing Kaduna North zone, who have both been suspended from the party by the faction loyal to the state Governor, Nasir el-Rufai
The parallel State APC office was opened due to the lingering disagreement between the Governor and the Senators which has led to suspension and counter-suspension
Last Thursday, the factional APC, ‘APC Akida’ and the ‘Restoration APC’ unveiled the office, saying that they had to stay away from the headquarters of the party along Ali Akilu road to avoid the activities of thugs.
Hunkuyi had on Thursday vowed to “do everything possible” to vote him out El-Rufai in 2019.
“The battle line has been drawn; we must vote out El-Rufa’i in 2019 general elections,” the Senator said in Kaduna.
“We will put structures at all levels to ensure that APC followers get credible candidates that will be rallying points for all; anything less is not negotiable.”
Sen. Hunkuyi urged stakeholders to join hands with the forum to “rescue our dear party and Kaduna State from total collapse”, and promised to chart a new course in the effort toward a better Kaduna State.
However, El-rufai’s Spokesman, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, in reaction said in a statement issued on Thursday also that no one would pay heed to the attention-seeking gambits of desperate politicians who have steadily been demystified in the State.
“The APC Government of Kaduna State has boldly lived up to its manifesto commitments and principles to the people, saying, it will continue to enjoy the firm support of the party’s State Executive which is united, and committed to the hard work of bringing sustainable change,” he said.
“Government appreciates the support it has received from the party in executing policies that stand up for the right of ordinary people to equal opportunity which was demonstrated when government took drastic action to ensure that only qualified teachers teach the children of the poor.”
However, less than 24 hours after it was unveiled, the office was defaced with a red paint but the party officials moved on unperturbed as they used the facility on Sunday to announce the suspension of the state governor for six months.
The property, a one storey duplex was said to belong to Senator Hunkuyi before it was converted to a State Party Secretariat last week while the demolition order was allegedly carried out by a bulldozer, accompanied by military personnel.
Meanwhile, Senator Hunkuyi alleges that it was the governor who personally supervised the demolition exercise.
“In the early hours of today, the @GovKaduna Mallam @elrufai personally drove a bulldozer accompanied by armoured tanks to destroy my house at 11B Sambo Road. This is a new low and fighting dirty with such low level of pettiness is indeed unprecedented in Kaduna State,” he tweeted @HunkuyiSuleiman.
“It is on record that few months back, @GovKaduna Mallam @elrufai marked another property of mine in Hunkuyi town for demolition but residents of the area prevented the officials from demolishing it. Today, he came well prepared with military men to destroy my house at Sambo Road.”
