Federal High Court Grants Naira Marley Bail, Set Bond at Two Million Naira

Nigerian Singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known Naira Marley has been granted bail by the Federal High Court, Ikoyi with bond set at Two Million Naira. The singer, alongside four others (including rapper Zlatan Ibile) were earlier arrested on May 10, 2019 for alleged advance-fraud.

While others were released few days later, Naira Marley was retained and charged with an 11-count fraud allegations. At the conclusion of his plea, the singer’s bail hearing was scheduled for today, Thursday, May 30, 2019.

At the resumed bail application, the lead defense counsel for the singer, Olalekan Ojo apologized for his absence at the initial arraignment on May 20 due to heavy downpour.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo who presided over the bail hearing after listening to the defense and prosecution arguments granted the singer bail to the sum of two million naira, two sureties – one with a landed property and the other, a Civil Servant, not lower than a level officer.

The trial has been adjourned to 22, 23 and 24 of October for accelerated hearing.
