Free Treatment For Ebola As Virus Kills 50 In DR Congo

The Ebola virus which broke out beginning of August in Eastern Congo has claimed 50 lives but the government authorities, through Beni’s Mayor, Jean Edmond Nyonyi Masumbuko Bwanakawa announced on the 20th of August that there would be free treatment for the infected within the next three months.

The aim was to “remove the financial barrier that could discourage the population from visiting the health centre,” said Dr. Bathe Ndjoloko Tambwe, in charge of coordinating the fight against the disease.

The health ministry also said that the death toll had increased as of 19th of August following a new victim in Mabalako-Mangina, close to Beni, the centre of the outbreak in the North Kivu province.
