The 2017 GTBank Fashion Weekend kicked off yesterday Saturday 11th November with a series of masterclasses, exhibition and runway shows in Lagos, Nigeria. The two-day fashion weekend which will conclude today, Saturday 12th November only demonstrates that the bank is attuned to the needs of the fashion industry.
On Day 1 of the runway shows, one of Africa’s most renowned Fashion brand Lanre DaSilva Ajayi popularly referred to as LDA released its Spring/Summer 2018 (SS18) collection titled “The Grand Royal” [A Glamorous Ode to the 1940s].
With this collection, the brand which has been in existence for almost 15 years pays homage to the aesthetics in which it was founded upon. In the early years LDA produced pieces that where reminiscent of the 1940s with bold and groundbreaking silhouettes featuring gorgeous full skirts and dresses, jackets and blouses topped with eye-catching trimmings, designs, colours and fabrics.
However, for SS18, the designer produces a strong collection for strong women, the designer created a distinguished, feminine and glamorous update of the 1940s. The collection shows the powerful and strong image of the female form while keeping it sexy and timeless. This collection is the most powerfully effective presentation from this brand in a long time. It connotes a certain feistiness, each piece is wearable and highly desirable for today’s independent woman who embraces everything that comes with being one.
The evening pieces are exquisite while the daytime ones are again definitely 1940s in silhouette, they all have a certain charm with a lot of emphasis laid on the hand-stitching and tailoring that brings each piece to full elegance. This collection is a statement of the power wielded by a woman who wants to keep her sexiness while dressed to kill.
Fabrics used included the brand’s signature lace, others were tulle, organza, silk, velvet and more…
