Nigerian emerging designer fashion designer of self-named label Wana Sambo has just released her Pre- Autumn/Winter 2012 collection tagged ‘I Am Woman’.
Young and quirky Wana explained her inspiration for this collection, according to her ‘I was thinking sorority girl meets women’s prison, grunge chic, metals and wires, power and life struggles, in the light of these, one woman that came to me was celebrity fashion icon Bianca Jagger who’s passion for expressing herself through her style, power dressing, jet set lifestyle and marriage to rolling stones lead singer, Mick Jagger made her a force to reckon with. She was truly a ‘wild’ one who ran Studio54 and dared to do anything within and outside the realm of conventional”.
Applying the Bianca Jagger life story to the modern day Nigerian woman and what she can become allowed Wana to name each outfit according to some of the states and local government areas in Nigeria, thus emphasizing the nearness of each piece to home.
Wana continues, “I believe women should be able to take a stand, make mistakes and eventually learn that it is okay to be yourself and know it will only turn out right”.
The ‘I Am Woman’ collection is made up of predominately black pieces that are sexy and can translate from playful day to sexy night.
