Top womenswear brand, iamISIGO owned by stylist & designer BubuOgisi has released its SS16 collection lookbook entitled ‘Modern Hunters’.
Previously showcased at the recently concluded Heineken LFDW, the collection consists of pieces reflecting a female Ghanaian hunter. Inspired by the 17th century folktale surrounding an ancient fabric technique called Kente, it pays homage to the modern hunter in us.
Stating the idea behind the collection, the brand says, “Our SS16 collection is spread across the idea of hunting being a “sport” as most of the Ghanaian warriors were usually hunters like the great Ghanaian female hunting warrior Queen “YaaAsantewaa” – the Queen who led men to fight the British in 1900 – a woman of pride who proved that Africans, including African woman were – and are still not – weaklings.”
The fabrics used throughout this collection are ones that would “suit the hunter”. Red, the predominant colour in the pieces represents the blood of the great Ghanaian ancestors.
