Ghanaian Fashion Designer Nina Barkers - Woode Presents Her ‘Love April’ New Collection Inspired By The African Woman

There have been so many look books to feature recently and we still can’t have enough of the gorgeous creations and unique flair that is becoming rampant with African designers. In as much as we are having thrones of new designers flocking in, most of them still manage to stand on their own two feet and climb up the fashion ladder.

“Love April, operates as a designer and retailer of apparel and accessories for women in Ghana and internationally. It offers ready-to-wear clothes for women, leather goods, and accessories. It embodies today’s woman with the marriage between sophistication and sexiness which allows her to step into the world, where ever that might be feeling and looking confident”.
The Label Love April is still fresh, a luxurious clothing line created with the modern woman in mind. Their pieces are designed to make a woman feel comfortable, confident and free with her fashion expression. This is evident in their new line.

According to the designer Nina Barkers-Woode, the collection for this season is following natural instinct to create bold tribal prints using the African womanhood as their muse. Inspired by the world history generations of women and androgyny artworks, the Love April’s collection plays on the mixture of masculinity and femininity with exaggerated seam-lines to emphasis their cling to modern culture.

Runway To Real Life: Fade Ogunro Shows You How To Wear Nigerian Fashion Label Alter Ego With Style And Confidence

Fade Ogunro, one of the hosts of the highly anticipated TV show themed ‘Glam Report’ alongside Michelle Dede and DidiOcheja, seems to be an avid lover of the Nigerian brand ‘Alter Ego’ and has been spotted in creations from the brand three times in recent weeks. All three dresses were showcased during the 2012 MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

The first dress was worn for the Darey Are Alade “Love: Like A Movie” Concert in February. The sequin and sheer number was dark brown peep toe pumps, minimal makeup and played down jewelry.

Fade Ogunro wore another Alter Ego creation for the Africa Magive Viewers Choice Awards in March. The gorgeous silk dress had a deep neckline and she again opted for a nude look with little or no make up with flowing locks.

The most recent outfit we’ve seen her step out in was for the MTV All Stars Party Tour this month. This creation is stunning with a lace top and sequin skirt that features a thigh slit. She had black court shoes and a small box clutch to complete her look of the evening.

Rocking an outfit from the same designer has got us curiously watching the Alter Ego brand for new creations that would be worn on the red carpet. What do you think of her three Alter Ego looks?

Côte d’Ivoire Fashion Label Loza Maleombho Goes Androgynous In Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection

Loza Maléombho was born in Brazil, raised in Côte d’Ivoire and in the United States and was largely influenced by the diversity of cultures that she was open to. Her early world wide exposure has inspired her culturally eclectic aesthetic in artistic expressions.

In her Autumn/Winter Baroque Inspired collection, one is reminded of the fashion that would have raved an older generation and become even more appreciative of the art involved in the collection. The brand which remains resolute about the idea of ‘fashion for change’ thought to also express this in this collection with the patterned combination of Lace, Kente Fabric and Rich Bazin.

The slightly androgynous collection contains very nice easy to wear individual pieces, if combined well.

According to the designer, her inspiration is as “early 19th century/baroque meets modern urban fashionista”.  Loza also described the masterpiece of the collection as the trench coat, but we’ll leave you to determine that from the collection below.
