The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the re-run elections for Rivers State from February 6to March 19.
Secretary to the commission, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, in a statement, said that the shift was after a meeting with various stakeholders in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has warned against rigging the rerun elections, saying that anyone caught would be treated like an armed robber.
In Anambra state, INEC has barred Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor from representing the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming Senate rerun elections.
The exclusion is in line with the directive of the commission barring political parties from bringing in new candidates in 69 scheduled court ordered re-run elections whose dates were announced by the commission yesterday.
INEC said it took the decision following Monday’s consultations with major stakeholders in the electoral process as well as in the public interest.
The affected states include Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi. Others are Taraba,Imo, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers.While that of Gombe has been conducted since January 27, the remaining states would have theirs from February 13 to March 19, 2016.
