Just In: Many Feared Dead As Petrol Tanker Explodes In Kogi State

No fewer than 10 people have been confirmed dead after petrol tanker exploded following collision with several vehicles in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The accident reportedly happened at Felele area in the early hours of Wednessday September 23. Among those burnt to death are Polytechnic students, primary school pupils, traders and pedestrians, SaharaReporters reports.

The casualty figure was reported to be over 20 as the fire spread widely, also claiming property. It was gathered that the driver of the tanker conveying petrol lost control as the truck rammed into a tricycle and oncoming vehicles before going up in flames.

Firefighters and emergency personnel are on the ground rescuing victims. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has since expressed shock over the fatal accident which claimed lives and property.

Expressing his deepest condolences to the families of the affected persons, the Governor described the incident as greatest tragedy the State has witnessed.
