A Kenyan athlete, Abraham Kipton has emerged winner of the highly anticipated Lagos City Marathon race.
With a race time of 2hours and 16 minutes, and 21 seconds the Kenyan beat over 20, 000 athletes including local and international runners to win the 42km marathon, which began at the National Stadium, Surulere.
Abraham Kipton takes home the grand prize of $50,000 for his effoers while Ethiopia’s Haleema Hussein came tops for the female category. She also walked away with $50,000.
Veteran long distance runner, Emmanuel Gyang of Plateau was the first Nigerian to cross the finsh line coming in the 7th position. Mary Akor was the first female Nigerian to cross.
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung and other dignitaries were at the finish line to witness the race.
