The major theme of Lanre Da Silva (LDA) spring/summer 2012 collection ‘Labour of Love’ takes trends of bright clashing looks and a refined lady-like silhouette that is infused with fresh new ideas. It features modern classic cuts and architecture that results in a cutting-edge collection.
The inspiration for this collection is got from a beautiful little town called Tuscan in Italy. Creative director of the label Lanre Da Silva Ajayi has been inspired by the 16th-century walls of Italy's most beautiful architecture, the antique markets and stunning nearby villas in the surrounding hills and the beaches and a smaller town called Lucca. The collection is a mix of the architecture of Italy with the vibrancy of Africa and in particular Nigeria, which is evident in the choice of colours. According to Lanre “Africans are not afraid embrace bright and eye catching colours, it’s part of our culture to stand out and I have taken that part of Africa and the architecture of Italy and brought them together in what you’ll be seeing in this collection”.
Pieces are structured and there is the application of traditional tailoring techniques of pleating and draping in the clothes; mini dresses with colour blocks and graphic prints that result in clean and modern pieces, Form fitting mini dresses in draped pleats, Knee length structured dresses in bouncy full skirts featuring subtle prints and florals with ruffle detailing, fitted jackets in lace with high collars made shapely at the waist with panel detailing, form fitting skirts in lace, tweed and satin that and show off the feminine curves and paired with soft flowing blouses silks and delicately designed to special lace appliqué, straight tweed tailored trousers and finale looks of enormous couture pieces ruffled with petals to the hilt.
All looks are paired with statement Otazu Rodrigo jewellery in silver, gold and precious stones supplied by Ruby and Pink boutique the exclusive distributor of the designer jewellery in Nigeria.
