Lupita Nyong’o Releases Statement On Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s ‘Americanah’, Brad Pitt To Produce Movie Too

Lupita Nyong’o just signed on the rights for the film version of Nigerian award winning novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book ‘Americanah’.

We had previously brought you news on this from the announcement at the inaugural Stylist Book Club which took place yesterday Thursday 29 May 2014 at the Waldorf Hilton with Ms. Adichie in attendance. Click here to read.

Nyong’o will star and also produce the movie alongside Brad Pitt’s Plan B company. This will be marking the second team-up between him and Lupita – both Oscar winners for 12 Years a Slave!

Nyong’o attended the 2014 Maui Film Festival held at Capische Restaurant in Hotel Wailea on Wednesday (June 4) in Wailea, Hawaii where she released a statement on signing the film,“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie‘s brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart,” the 31-year-old Oscar winner said.

The novel is “an epic love story of young Nigerians, Ifemelu and Obinze; a romance that spans continents, visas, phone cards, and breakups, while exploring the cruelties and the humor of both the modern immigrant experience and the difficulty of finding your way home.”

Are you excited to see Lupita as an actress/producer in the film?
