Many Injured, Properties Destroyed As Gas Tanker Explodes In Lagos

A gas tanker explosion which occured in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos state on Thursday afternoon, September 24 has left many residents injured along with several properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.

Confirming the incident to reporters, the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said efforts are being made to put out the resulting fire from the explosion.

Gawat Jubril, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media, said further investigation revealed that an unknown truck conveying Gasoline had a lone accident and exploded. The impact of the explosion led to fire at adjoining buildings and several vehicles were burnt.


He also added that the injured persons have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment while the inferno is being tackled head-on by the combined efforts of the LASEMA Response Team led by the Director Operations, LRU Fire, LASG Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force and NSCDC.

LASEMA Paramedics were also spotted in a Tweet shared by Jubril, administering First Aid treatment on some victims at the incident scene. This incident comes barely 24 hours after a petrol tanker exploded in Kogi state leaving 24 persons dead.
