The Lion King just got its very first trailer and the internet can’t get enough. Projected to hit cinemas in July 2019, the Jon Favreau-directed Disney live-animation stars our very own Nigerian born English actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside American singer Beyonce and a bevy of other industry giants such as Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Alfre Woodard, and John Oliver.
In case you didn’t know, Ejiofor voices the role of the antagonist and villainous lion who seeks to usurp the throne by battling his nephew, Simba who is to rule the animal kingdom. In the same vein, Beyonce plays the character, Nala, the fierce lioness and Simba’s childhood friend-turned-love interest.

The talented actor got his start in Amistad after receiving a call from the legendary director, Steven Spielberg when he had just completed his studies at the National Theatre and prestigious drama school LAMDA. His big break came after impressing audiences with his iconic role in Steve McQueen‘s 12 Years a Slave, to which he earned numerous awards and nominations.
From Academy Award, Golden Globe Award to BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award and Primetime Emmy Award, the Commander of the Order of the British Empire continues to outdo himself while making us proud one role at a time.
