J.J. Abrams never seems to disappoint, from start to finish “Star Trek Into Darkness” is action packed. He continues to rewrite the Star Trek universe to fairly good effect. The movie takes you and pulls you in all directions. You can be laughing and cracking the bones at a particular time and the next minute, you are wiping tears off your face.
Directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch amongst other, the movie is plot- character-driven story writ large across the galaxy. Kirk struggles to integrate fallibility, hubris and greatness into a man fit to lead others where they've never gone before after the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, he leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a deliciously complex bad guy and all the usual crew members get their assorted moments to shine as well.
Star Trek Into Darkness has the right amount of everything from drama, comedy, seriousness, cheesiness, action, acting, cinematography, costumes, action, special effects, set design and so on. Although, it was a borrowed plotline from the previous Star Trek series, one can still capitalize on the intriguing and entertainment filled plots that are mind blogging, save for the fact that the current villain did not quite fill the shoes of his predecessor.
Enacted in 3D, It has a few good SFX set pieces, a few goofy nods to the mythology are thrown in but this is very much Abrams' unique and refreshing perspective on this classic cosmology.
The Movie that opened in the box office last week with a mind blowing figure tanked 2 places as “Fast and Furious 6” climb to the number 1 spot with “The Hangover 3” following closely behind.
