Nigeria’s Mohammed Barkindo Appointed OPEC Scribe

Nigeria’s Mohammed Barkindo has been appointed Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The 13-country cartel’s oil ministers announced this in Vienna on Thursday.

Barkindo who took over from long-time incumbent Abdalla El-Badri of Libya will serve as the Secretary Generalfor the next three years.

The former Group Managing Director of NNPC got the nod ahead of other contestants from Saudi, Iran, Ecuador, Iraq and Indonesia.
