The prestigious BET Awards, which celebrates black excellence across entertainment, sports, lifestyle and general black success was held on Sunday in Los Angeles, USA. A night of thrilling performances, emotional speeches, celebrity appearances and unforgettable moments!

1. Cardi B’s Performance

From the very minute Cardi B took the stage, it was an energetic response from the crowd, who was later Joined on stage by her husband Offset. During the performance of “Clout” and “Press,” the audiences went agog when Cardi straddled her hubby and performed a lap dance.

2. Mama Burna Thrills The World With Her Short But Powerful Message To Africans Upon Receiving Burna’s BET Award

Shortly after ‘restless’ Burna Boy left his mum, he was called upon to receive his award, doubling up as his manager, his mother, popularly known as ‘Mama Burna’ stepped on the stage to pick up his award, and here’s what she had to say to Africans.

3. Legends Don’t Die, They Live On. BET Awards Honors Nipsey Hussle At The 2019 Award Ceremony

Nipsey Hussle, who was shot dead aged 33 in March 2019 became one of the posthumous award recipient at the 2019 BET Awards as ‘Humanitarian of the year’ and best rapper in the male category.

Until his death, he was a rapper, entrepreneur and community activist who was first honored with a blue carpet at the 2019 BET Awards ceremony before receiving two other awards posthumously

4 Tyler Perry’s Ultimate Icon Award Speech

Tyler Perry received the Ultimate Icon Award and gave a passionate speech during his acceptance.

“When I started hiring Taraji, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba, they couldn’t get jobs in this town but God blessed me to be in a position to be able to hire them,” he said.

He also opened up about the land he bought in Atlanta, where his Tyler Perry Studios now sits.

“There were Confederate soldiers on that base, plotting and planning on how to keep 3.9 million Negroes enslaved. Now, that land is owned by one negro,” he said.

5. Marsai Martin’s Reaction When She Won 

14 year old American actress and producer, Marsai Martin was shocked on hearing that she won the YoungStars BET Awards.

6. Burna Boy Wins BET Best International Act

27 year old Damini Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy has once again put Nigeria on the world map after emerging the winner of the 2019 BET Best International Act.

In the same category were also Mr. Eazi and South African rapper, AKA among others


The Award was picked up by his mum because he was “restless” and had to go get a drink.
