Today we’re shinning the spotlight on Amy Akudo Iheakanwa, an Australian born community development worker who is also the co-founder of the accessory brand, Shekudo.
After co-finding the brand with Shetu Bimpong and later become the sole creative director, the all-around creative moved the brand’s base across the Indian Ocean to commence production in Lagos Nigeria.
She uses textiles to create luxurious accessories that draw women in. Where Nigeria offers her her aesthetic, her Australian background contributes to the way she markets her free, easy-going products.
Produced in Lagos, Shekudo prides itself on local artistry and social responsibility. It’s purpose is to employ artisans and expose the craftsmanship that is alive and well in Nigeria. Iheakanwa’s pieces put a spin on local craftsmanship, textiles, and resources to create distinctive to create eye-catching women’s accessories.
