The 5th edition of the annual Woman Rising weekend put together by The Life House was a spectacular series of events that celebrated International Women’s Day through the arts by spotlighting creative and musical women. It held on 21 & 22 March 2015 at The Wheatbaker, Metropolitan Club and Federal Palace Hotel respectively in Lagos. It was an absolute blast!!!
Hosted by Kemi Lala Akindoju and Aderonke Adebanjo, it was attended by the likes of Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, the former Minister of Education, Chief Mrs Oyenike Okundaye, one of the most respected internationally known female artist from Nigeria and many other leading women.
There was a Special Screening of “The Supreme Price,” an award-winning film by Joanna Lipper inspired by women and featuring Hafsat Abiola.
The weekend also showcased a host of homegrown and international female musicians with performances by Tonye, Modele, Ruby Gyang and Bumi Thomas (UK). Classical jazz pianist Rolake Akinkugbe and acclaimed spoken word artist Titiliope Sonuga also gave great performances.
