Odio Mimonet (OM) is a brand that we all look up to in the Nigerian fashion industry as an established brand. Not only because it has been around for over 18 years but also for the pure creativity the Creative Designer of the label Odion Oseni exhibits in each of her collections, we are absolutely wowed every time by her expert and skillful use of print and lace fabrics with an imagination that beats the mind and equated to that of a true creative genius.
This Autumn/Winter 2012 tagged “Retro Rustique” recently showcased at the Arise Magazine fashion week Lagos in March 2012 where she received the award of “Most Innovative Designer”. This further affirms her expert juxtaposition of contrasting colours and fabrics an elegant, retro chic celebration of the female form.
According to the press release sent to us:
“Retro Rustique showcases traditional materials used in unconventional ways that lend themselves the wearer¹s unique style. There is lace used abundantly and out of it¹s typical context and exuding baroque style with a punk rock twist. The cuts and shapes are inspired by modern architectural structures with symmetrical shapes creating an alluring sense of an alternate reality. The use of the precise-cutting technique on Ankara, to give it a lacelike effect, is complemented by rich, opulent embroidery reminiscent of the famous Faberge eggs collected by the Russian Czars.
The collection has distinctive bohemian elements, characterized by its eclectic range of textures and tones. Each piece is a modern treasure to be enjoyed by the confident OM lady”.
“Odion’s vision behind the brand is to infuse her profound love for art into her passion for designing Nigerian-inspired clothes that appeal to the discerning lady. The aim is to create pieces for the everyday woman that are both wearable and unique and that will make her stand out in the crowd. As always, OM seeks to reflect beauty in the feminine form and to ensure that every OM piece will be a classic for decades to come. The name of the brand was inspired by this love for art, hence the name Mi-(Monet) after the Impressionist artist Claude Monet.
Odion developed early on her trademark of strong Ankara and print themes and, almost two decades later has become a household name especially following the December 2006 launch of her ready-to-wear line, Voyage. The goal of her label is to reflect beauty in the feminine form because each woman is unique and the clothes are meant to enhance a woman’s beauty. Her style and designs inspire and liberate, as women across generations can express their individuality and flair wearing her clothes. The brand’s constant focus is to provide high-quality designs and pieces for the everyday woman who needs clothes that are wearable, versatile, and stylish whether she is going to the office, on the school run or attending a glamorous function.
Odion Oseni is poised to take the label further with the introduction of accessories line and the expansion of the ready-to-wear offering”.
