Nigeria today, 19th January 2016, signed six agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to enhance bilateral relations between both countries.

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Crown Prince of UAE, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, witnessed the signing of the agreements on trade, finance and judicial matters in Abu Dhabi where the President is attending the 2016 edition of the World Future Energy Summit as a special guest of honour.

Nigeria’s Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Okechukwu Enelamah signed the Agreement on Trade Promotion and Protection with the UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs.

Nigeria’s Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami also signed the Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assiustance on Criminal Matters, and Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal and Commercial Matters including the recovery and repatriation of stolen wealth, with UAE Minister of Justice, Sultan Bin Saheed Albadi

Upon completion of signing the agreements, President Buhari restated his commitment to fighting corruption and restoring Nigeria’s dignity in the comity of Nations.

He also urged all Islamic countries to join in the fight against terrorism as well as denounce the atrocities of terrorist sect, Boko Haram as un-Islamic and against the teachings of the Holy Prophet.

Crown Prince Zayed Al Nahyan in his closing remarks stated that the relationship between Nigeria and the UAE would be strengthened by President Buhari’s visit and the signing of the agreements.
