Pope Francis Arrives the US
Tuesday the 22nd of September 2016 marks the first ever visit of Pope Francis to the United States of America, almost 50 years after Pope Paul VI visited in 1965.
He was warmly welcome by thePresident Barack Obama, his wife Michelle Obama, their daughters Malia and Sasha and Vice President Joe Biden on his arrival from Cuba at the Joint Base Andrews, Washington.
His visit is a historical one and most regard it as quite significant as he is expected to tackle some of the nation’s political, social and economic controversies during the six days he is expected to stay in the United States.
During his visit, he was hosted to an official welcoming ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House by Obama on Wednesday, he then paraded through downtown Washington in his Popemobile.
The Pope is also expected to hold a canonization later in the day at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. He is scheduled to hold a first-ever joint address to Congress, then proceed to New York, where he will host a religious service at ground zero, site of the September 11 attacks in 2001 and address the United Nations. His visit would then end in Philadelphia on Sunday.
