US President Donald Trump has angrily fired back at his predecessor Barack Obama after being branded an unserious president who had put the country’s democracy in danger, AFP reports.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that Obama was an “ineffective” and “terrible” leader. “I see the horror that he’s left us, the stupidity of the transactions that he made,” Trump said. He added, “President Obama did not do a good job. The reason I’m here is because of President Obama and Joe Biden.”

Obama who was spoke to the Democratic convention on Wednesday, had accused Trump of never showing “interest in taking the job seriously,” and lacks the skills to grow into the job.

“I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously…. But he never did,” excepts from the 44th president’s speech released by convention organizers read.

He also added in a series of deeply critical comments about the sitting president, “He’s shown no interest in putting in the work, no interest in finding common ground. “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t.”
