Afro-modernist fashion label, REKANA has released its new collection for the Dry/Harmattan 2020 season tagged “Animalistic Ferocity” and its everything IT boys and girls would die for.
According to the creative director Sharon Ojong, the collection which features wild prints, daring cuts and designs in earth tones, was inspired by untamed and wild beauties.
“For our dry/harmattan 2020, I wanted to work with a clash of traditional and modern fabrics in earthy tones. This collection is inspired by untamed and wild beauties; I love how you can see a wild animal and can tell their ferocity from the colour and texture of their skin/hair.” she says.
“I went back to the film “The gods must be crazy” and we (myself and illustrator Dominiqe Umeh) sketched a story around a coke bottle that fell from the sky, to one man’s curiosity to return it.”
Also, fabrics were sourced from Abeokuta and Lagos Island. Ojong added, “For this collection, we worked mostly with remnant Asooke and silk from manufacturers to prevent waste.”
The unisex brand also introduced its footwear collaboration with designer Lucy Daves. Shop the collection directly now on www.rekana.co. See the full lookbook below.
