Relaxing Lockdown Will Reverse Gains Achieved In Fight Against COVID-19 – Jimi Agbaje
Jimi Agbaje, the former Lagos governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said states relaxing the lockdown imposed on them to control the spread of coronavirus will have themselves to blame.
Agbaje took to his official Twitter page, saying the decision by state governors will be counterproductive and reverse gains achieved in the fight against COVID-19. He said the action will prove costly as it allows people to break the social distancing advisory by health experts and the government.
This advice is coming after Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State relaxed lockdown order in their state on for the people to observe religious gatherings during the Easter celebration.
Agbaje warned that social distancing is our best weapon against the virus, saying our health system is too weak to withstand any pressure.
The Ondo State government has also announced that churches will be allowed to hold services during the season while Katsina State has lifted a ban on jumat services across the state.
See his tweet below.
The decision by some state governors to pause social distancing advisory for Easter and Jumat will be counter productive and could reverse the gains achieved thus far in stemming the tide of the pandemic.
