This report was taken up on Tuesday at the Committee of Whole presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Yusuf Lasun (APC-Osun).
The bill seeks to address the hazardous results surrounding the use of plastic bags on the oceans, rivers, lakes, forests, wildlife and humans when eventually passed into law.
The bill which has been passed by the Senate was presented to the house by Rep. Mohammed Monguno, Punch reports.
The report endorsed that retailers of goods should offer paper bags to consumers at the point of sale as opposed to the use of plastic bags or be guilty of an offence when the bill is passed into law.It further stated that an individual who produces plastic bags for the purpose of selling would also be guilty of an offence under the law.
The report also stated that a person who imports plastic bag for sale or carryout bag is equally guilty of an offence and would be charged accordingly.
