From sweet day dresses, sensual evening gowns, skirts and Nigerian traditional ensembles, fashion fell for lace at the Austrian Lace Nigerian Fashion Show which took place on Saturday May 14th, 2011, the Lagos Expo, Eko Hotel. Hosted by the Austrian Embroidery Association in collaboration with the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy the evening was a celebration of the trade relationship between the Austrian Lace manufacturers and Nigeria.

 

The event signifies the strong trade relationship between the Austrian Embroidery Association led by their President, Mr Markus Riedmann and Nigeria lace retailers, emphasis was laid on the authenticity of the lace and the new hologram device specially designed to help potential customers differentiate real from counterfeit Austrian Lace.

 

Lagos fashion elite gathered to celebrate the 50 years long marriage between Austria and Nigeria in event that will go down in the books of Nigerian fashion history. Folake Coker of Tiffany Amber, Frank Oshodi of House of Bunor, Godwin Mekwuye of Vivid Imagination and Ituen Basi of self-named label showed innovation and fusion of modern edginess with pieces cut out from colourful embroidered vintage lace fabrics.

 

According to Shanay Hubmann, Commercial Counsellor to the Austrian Embassy, “the message is clear: Austrian Lace has been around for more than 50 years, it is now coming back in an entirely new form, and it is here to stay”.
