The new collection, “Inception” which can be best described as colourful, quirky and trendy features exciting pieces ranging from tops, skirts, dresses and jackets.
In a short interview, Sasha talks to OnoBello.com’s Fashion Correspondent Bimbim Babalola on her love for designing, inspiration behind the collection and how she intends to contribute to the Nigerian fashion industry.
Can you tell us your general mood with the official launch of your collection?
I’m good, I’m very excited, the responses I am getting is really great, and am just happy that people find the clothes wearable.
What is the inspiration behind your new collection, Inception?
My inspiration came from Lagos heat, I was in Kenya earlier on in the year, recording my album and Obasa which is in Kenya is a very hot place, if you think Lagos is hot, Obasa is hotter, as a result of the heat I was wearing a lot of light and airy clothes and the element and the colours I was seeing there just really inspired this collection. What I have decided with my line is to create affordable clothing.
Lagos is hot so am sure people will appreciate fabrics like these and colours that pop, so that you can look dressy, the clothes are interchangeable, so that you can wear them all day and if you need to go out you can dress them up; they are very versatile.
Am sure your fans will like to know if you will leave music for fashion?
Of course not, I’m never leaving music, I just dropped a cover, its titled “Bad Girl”, so my fans can download it online and more music coming soon.
What do you think of the fashion industry in Nigeria and how do you hope to contribute to it?
I think I’m already contributing to it because my passion has always been to create affordable clothing because I realize I love high street fashion when I travel but we didn’t have that in Nigeria so here I am coming to the rescue, very affordable clothes ranging from N8,500 to N15,000, nothing more and the pieces are very interchangeable, very dressy, you can wear them to work, wear them to parties, and they are all made in Nigeria.
The idea is around creating more jobs for people in Nigeria, so when we expand, we will hire more people and train them to make made in Nigeria clothes for Nigerians.
Should fashion lovers look forward to a collection every season from you?
Eclectic by Sasha is not a seasonal thing, we are stocking in a retail store so if you buy, we can provide clothes every week.
