See excerpts from her interview and more photos below.
On if she always knew she’d end up in the entertainment industry: No not at all! I went to school for graphic design, wanted to do hair at one point, own a restaurant…. I eventually got into styling and that’s where it began, before I started modeling and acting.
On her first big break: My first acting opportunity was a role in a horror movie called ‘Fright Night Files’ that appeared on TV One. But I’d say my real big break was my first lead role in a movie called ‘Three-Headed Shark Attack,’ which premiered on the SyFy channel.
On the artist she’s dying to work with: I’d love to shoot with Annie Leibovitz one day. She’s a legend! I’d be honored to be her muse. I’d also love to work alongside Halle Berry. She’s one of my inspirations. I think she’s a great actress and I love that she’s played so many different characters. Something I’d definitely love to achieve.
On being an entrepreneur:It’s been awesome! I’m so happy that I’m able to expand and venture into new businesses. It’s definitely kept me busy. I try to be as genuine as possible when it comes to the creative part. I try to think of things that I like and things that make sense to who I am.
On how she stays grounded despite the fame: I’ve always reminded myself to stay humble. I never want to allow any amount of fame or money to change the person that I have been.
On her tattoos: I have 7 tattoos total. My favorite one is the dragon on my hand. I got it because in Chinese astrology I’m the year of the dragon (year 88). I wanted to get something either on my hand or a full sleeve, and decided to go with the hand. It’s a random tattoo and not on a very common place on the body, but I love it.
On the first time she was star-struck:The first time I met Pharrell, I was star struck. It was at a recording studio and it was very brief, but I was at a loss for words.
On the one thing most people don’t know about her:That I have an obsession with popping pimples.
