Lagos, the city of art, creativity and excellence, kicked off this year’s edition of Lagos Fashion Week on October 24th at the Federal Palace Hotel, and per usual fashion designers and fashion, lovers brought their A-game.
Bloke was among the emerging designers who showcased on the first day. The artisan label’s SS20 collection was an inquisitive look into what family means to the creative director, Faith Oluwajimi and the seemingly unsuspected effects of the concept of family on individuals in the society in contemporary times using his family as a scope of reference.
Titled ‘Family Portrait’, the collection also draws inspiration from photographs of Senegalese performer Sedjou Keita in the 70’s, and recent paintings of Nigeria’s Joy Labinjo which both focus on the theme of family through an African gaze.
Pieces from the collection boast family tree prints and a complete spectrum of colours palette with the use of different fabrics textures such as cotton, linen, lace, satin, for the tailored garments with an interesting blend of yarns which includes rayon, metallic, cotton, and polyester for the knitted offerings.
