Six Convicted for Cyber Fraud in Abeokuta, Ogun State


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ibadan, has secured the conviction of six Internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. Judges of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, Justices Mohammed Abubakar and Ibrahim Watilat gave their ruling on the respective cases.

The convicts, named Ibrahim Adenekan, Akinniyi Ojumu, Amoo Olamide, Oshoala Ganiu, Opaaje Isiah and Ibukun Sunday, were arraigned before the court for the respective one count filed to replace the original charges against them

The Judges found all six of them, having reached agreement with the Commission on plea bargaining.

Each of the convicts bagged a three-month jail term, for crimes of fraudulent impersonation and pornographic emailing, which convenes Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrime Prohibition Prevention Act 2015, and punishable under Section 24(1)(b) of the same Act.

The court also ordered the convicts to return to their victims the money they fraudulently collected from them, and also forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
