The Theatre Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj. Gen. Adeyemi Yekini, confirmed on the 18th of August, that the military engaged herdsmen in the troubled Guma Local Government Area of Benue State in a shoot out.
Guma and Logo Local Government Areas have been under heavy attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen since January 1 this year, leading to loss of over 500 persons.
The commandant said no casualty was recorded on either side.
He said, “Our men went on patrol along Gbajimba and encountered the herdsmen but we have no record of death or injury yet because our troops are still on the field. However, I’ll let you know as soon as possible.”
it was however gatherer that suspected herdsmen in the early hours of Saturday, 18th of August, ambushed the military personnel who were on surveillance in the Guma Local Government Area, killing one soldier and injuring two others.
