State Governors Meet In Abuja, Discuss Constitution Amendment & Other Issues


Governors from different states met on Wednesday evening, at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). This is the first of its kind meeting in the New Year.

Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, presided over the meeting which started at about 9pm and lasted into the early hours of Thursday.

Top on their agenda is a briefing from the constitution amendment committee of the forum headed by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.

The meeting was also meant to consider the health agenda for 2018 which is to get the commitment of governors to universal health care coverage, polio eradication and nutrition among others. Also discussed under the issue of security, is the rate of killings in the country.

Governors in attendance were Kashim Shettima of Borno State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Umar Ganduje of Kano State, Ibrahim Hassan of Jigawa State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Patrick Okowa of Delta State, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Ibrahim Dankwanbo of Gombe State and Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State.

Deputy Governors in attendance were those of Anambra, Dr. Nkem Okeke; Benson Abounu, Benue; Abubakar Alli, Yobe; Eze Madumere, Imo; Titi Laoye-Tomori, Osun; Ipalibo Banigo, Rivers; Yetunde Onanuga, Ogun and Enugu, Cecelia Ezeilo.

Others were deputy governors of Niger, Katsina, Ekiti, Lagos, Sokoto and Bauchi States.
